What to Backup?

I believe my old computer is about to conk out. Other than my personal
files, e-mail settings and downloaded software, what should I backup that
will be useful or nesessary for a new computer?


Am using Windows XP SP2 and will probably get another Windows XP operating
system. Any help is appreciated.

Favorites?
Anything you donwloaded & don't have on CD?
Address Book?
Email?
Templates?
etc

Just keep track for a day or so as you use your computer.

In addition to mentioned above:

1. E-mail message rules

Do you use Outlook AND Outlook Express.
If so, both Address Books if they are different.

2. Wallpaper
3. Sounds
4. Pictures

Do you use Microsoft Office?

There is a Windows Migration tool that you can use that takes most of the
thinking out of this. What is you current system now?
 
I would find it difficult to remember every little thing i liked and wanted
to keep. Why not just scoop up the whole thing into an image file--
especially one that has a nice image browser like Norton Ghost (there are
others). Then you can transfer at your leisure. Also, there is a way to
save all your settings and favorites, though I have never done this. Here

All who responded were very helpful. I really appreciate your help. Think
I will just scoop it up and transfer it to one of my external drives. You
don't need to respond unless this is a bad thing to do. Thanks again.
