WHY CAN'T WE CONNECT TO PAID HOTMAIL SUBSCRIPTIONS ANY LONGER?!

WHEN WILL MICROSOFT ADDRESS THIS ISSUE?

Hi squishy,

we also can and will read "normal letters" and "What is your error message?"

Can´t connect to server? or
"The server could not be found"?

Have a look on this sites:

"Outlook 2007 Known Issues": (search for "hotmail")
http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/ol2007/known_issues.htm

"Cannot connect to Hotmail via Outlook 2007 "
http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=513673&SiteID=17

"Error message when you synchronize a Hotmail account in Outlook 2002,
Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007:
"The server could not be found"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292870/en-us

Check also your settings:
"How to configure Outlook to work with Hotmail" The first point is:

"How to configure a Hotmail account in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 on
Windows Vista"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/287424/en-us

Maybe it helps.

Probably because you need to buy a new keyboard so your passwords get
entered correctly. Your current keyboard has the Shift key always
stuck.
WHEN WILL MICROSOFT ADDRESS THIS ISSUE?

Right after you decide to stop screaming while asking for help.

Thanks for the reply Oliver.

I am a System Admin and have been a programmer for over 21 years. (Just to
give you a little background and let you know where I'm coming from...)

I can set up Outlook for Hotmail just fine. My XP/2003 box works great with
my paid hotmail account.

My Outlook 2007 USED to work great with my hotmail account. Then, it
started randomly asking for the password when it would automatically check
my email. Then, it stopped connecting altogether.

I deleted my account and tried to replace it, but it fails at "Log on to
server".

I tried setting all options manually - still fails when trying to log on to
the Hotmail server.

I even deleted my PST and created a new one (just in case there was some
kind of corruption). Nothing changed.

What I don't understand is how it works fine since January, but starting 3
weeks ago, it just freaked out.

Lots of other people are reporting this error online. But, Microsoft has
failed to address it AFAIK.

But has anyone actually, y'know, contacted Microsoft about the problem?
They don't monitor this newsgroup, but they sure do follow up on calls made
to their tech-support. Or, at the least, they used to.

But really, they can't address what they don't know about.

I did. They promised a call back 2 days ago.

I have spoken with 3 tech support people at MS and they blame Hotmail while
Hotmail blames the Outlook team.

IMHO, it is an Outlook problem if my Outlook 2003 still can access the paid
hotmail account.

Sorry .. had to laugh at that for a bit ... it's a good suggestion but ...
who wants to pay $100 just in hopes that the tech documents the problem
properly and that the tech's manager actually relays the information to
MS... (I worked at a call center... they are usually not even part of
Microsoft)

Besides .. now isn't really the time .. the nightmare of Vista just came out
.... and there are SO many problems with that OS .. I'm sure that an Outlook
question would get lost in the shuffle.

Not that it's any comfort, squishy but I think I'm starting to have that
problem too just recently. Every once and a while it asks me for my Hotmail
password and makes me check the box to save it... So I guess I can look
forward to it to stop working for me too soon :(

Laugh all you want, but if you're going to complain about Microsoft not
taking care of a problem, you need to make sure that Microsoft *knows* about
the problem first.

For instance, my Camry's automatic door lock actuators keep breaking. All
four doors in the car now. But I'm not going to post to alt.autos.toyota
railing about Toyota not fixing the problem until I've talked to Toyota
about the problem. It just doesn't make sense.

Oh, and there are two flaws with your comment: 1) All users get free
support for 90 days from the first time they contact MS. 2) It's only $49
and, if you've worked in those call centers, you know it's pretty easy to
get that refunded.

Have their email addresses? Mail them. Ask to speak to supervisors, don't
be rude about it, but do be insistent. Point out that it works 100% in
Outlook 2003 and it does not work in Outlook 2007, ergo it's a problem with
Outlook 2007. And, generally, be patient. Unfortunately, not everyone
knows everything and that's always a pain, generally for them as much as for
you. If they want to charge you, insist that it is an obvious problem with
the software. Get them on the phone and ask them to conference in someone
from Hotmail (or Outlook, depending on who you're talking to) and get them
to work together.
I have spoken with 3 tech support people at MS and they blame Hotmail
while Hotmail blames the Outlook team.

Unfortunately, that's a side effect of a large company, especially when
dealing with two completely and totally different business units.
IMHO, it is an Outlook problem if my Outlook 2003 still can access
the paid hotmail account.

Oh, I'd agree with that. Definitely sounds like an Outlook issue.
