IMO, Windows Media Video (.WMV) files are the "most supported" as the
Microsoft supplied creation program, Windows Movie Maker, is included with
either XP or Vista. I have never had PPT refuse to use this file format but
I have had some issues with .MPG and .AVI files due to codec issues.

I have also had a performance related (I think) issue with AVI and PPT 2007
or the PPT2003 viewer.
On the same machine, a linked AVI file plays just fine with PPT 2000 but
when played with either of those later programs the AVI plays but the top
edge jitters. Convert the avi to WMV then all is fine.

cheers
Chris
