What supply?

Hi there
my system goes a bit like this
AMD Athlon 2800+ ThoroughBread
768mb DDR 333
Geforce FX 5900se/xt
52x24x52 CDRW
32x10x DVDROM
all running from a Jetway N2PAP400 Ultra motherboard
right now it is sitting over there with a blown 300 watt generic
powersupply...
i have about $95 USD or £50 to spend on a new power supply
which one would best suit my needs without going majprly over the
top(getting one much much better then i need)??

Antec, 350-420W range. Your system load is primarily on the 5V, 3V
rail, make sure the supply you choose has more than 200W combined 3V +
5V rating. Some Antecs don't list this combined output rating, but
are known to be suitable in the range I mentioned above.

Sparkle/Forton 350W should also be suitable, but in their 400W and up
range they don't have the fan (or air intake) on the underside, would
be more suitable if you had a different motherboard, not one with it's
power regulation circuitry all towards the top left corner of the
board, a potential hot-spot.

ive looked at the antec 350 watt range
i was kind of put off windering if it would have enough juice... i hope your
advice is good... im 15 right now and still learning fast... i dont hav much
money so i hope your not telling porkies :-S :-|

Kony telling porkies? Kony never tells porkies man, he has more knowledge
than most Engineers I know combined. (Which is saying alot because I know
alot of engineers). Unless....of course Kony is an engineer :-)

Truepower is better than "SL", Smartpower series, but even a high-end,
server, Delta, or PC Power & Cooling 300W would power that. I wouldn't
get a 300W Antec or Sparkle though.... might work, but better to have
higher output reserves. Main thing is, buy a quality name-brand unit, and
as I mentioned, it should have combined 3V/5V rating over 200W.

Agreed. I'm amazed that he has the time and generousity of spirit to answer
as many questions and solve as many problems as he does.
