1. Firefox
2. Thunderbird
3. Picasa
4. Hello
5. Gaim
6. Shareaza

What else?

CLCL: http://www.nakka.com/soft/clcl/index_eng.html <-- I use it about
1,500 times a day. And no install! :-D

XNews is pretty nice: http://xnews.newsguy.com/ - maybe not delightful
though.

TightVNC: http://tightvnc.com/ - use it daily.

Irfanview: http://irfanview.com/ - I use this one daily too. Very small,
clean.

Your selection is more chat oriented than mine ...

Most System Internals system tools
especially Process Explorer and Registry Monitor
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/freeware/procexp.shtml
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/regmon.shtml
Clean user interface implies low function. Don't be fooled.

iCarbon as a copier
http://www.idev.ch/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=76&Itemid=54
Just does its job. Period.

The old JV RegCleaner 4.3 for file associations, uninstalls, etc.
Used to be on http://www.jv16.org/
Faster and neater and less complicated than jv16 powertools

Xnews newsreader
http://xnews.newsguy.com/
Rather steep learning curve for interface (devotees deny this) but is
worth it.

SequoiaView to view space used on drive
http://www.win.tue.nl/sequoiaview/
Useful display of drive's treemap of files

Sam Spade For Windows to lookup Net data
http://www.samspade.org/ssw/
A few bugs but AFAICT there is little else like it.
(Anyone know anything similar to Sam Spade?)

Avast antivirus
http://www.avast.com/
A really nice interface!
AVG (and Zone Alarm too) are you listening - you have a lot to learn.

Yankee Clipper 3 clipboard utility
http://www.intelexual.com/products/yc3/
Scootgirl mentioned CLCL but I had already got Yankee Clipper
installed and am happy with it. If CLCL is better then let me know!

I think Piolet is nicer to use than Shareaza but mainly music.
http://www.piolet.com/
ISTR you need to opt out of some spyware by choosing custom install.

FreshUI interface tweaker for Windows
http://www.freshdevices.com/
Very nicely done interface and useful functions.

Firefox, of course
http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
Lovely interface and renders most pages rather well.

Don't know about "delightful" but ones I use on a day-to-day-basis,
because they do what I want, how I want, without fuss:

Firefox
Thunderbird
Irfanview
Grabit
pretty much all of the OOo suite (esp the HTML editor for my eBay templates)

GIMP is looking like a new favourite for the future though once I've
tried it head-to-head over photoplus, which I haven't listed as it's
free shareware not freeware.

6. Shareaza

I had Shareaza (version 2, unfortunitely). Very slow loading and on
every use overwrote (registry) my torrent client preference. I won't
use it again.

I use it as my torrent client, why use any other torrent cclient?

I like that it also does edonkey and gnutella.

Got to be SoulSeek..What a beaut!

MP3Gain. It's so clean and efficient. I always think about that when I use
it.

Well two reasons, personal and just I want too. First, I put
torrents on a different partition. My torrent downloads are a far
different genre than anything that shareaza got. Second, I object
strongly with any program that, upon every use, overwrites my
wishes. I had to reinstall my bittorrent client after each use of
shareaza, in order to use it. Thus, I *don't* use it any longer.
I like that it also does edonkey and gnutella.

Fine. Your choice.

This thread is about what software you found delightful to use. No
disagreement that's it delightful for you. My post points out that
shareaza is not a delight for all.

Picasa2 won a PC mag editor's choice and is free. Very easy to use.

THX for your hint. But: why oh why, unnecessary quoting over 200!
quoting lines again (snipped) posting only the one line above? This
behavior is shown in many of (not only) your postings. Please learn to
quote: http://learn.to/quote for example. Thanks in advance for
your kind understanding.

Although Picasa is still on my disk it is soon to leave.
Not only is it too large for what it does, but it insists on
accessing the disk and updating its excessively large database on
startup unless disabled.
Modifications to the viewed files are *not* saved to disk, but it
writes an invisible file to the directory to tell picasa how to
display the file.
The file is *not* changed. [perhaps you have to save it each time a
change is made?] Whatever.. I didn't bother too much looking into
its features too much.
I much prefer Irfanview in a recent incarnation as a nomination to
the delightful list.
Thumbs down for eye candy, thumbs up for quick efficient operation.

It doesn't have a database. It uses .ini files.

Yes. That is an advantage. You have the choice to save any edits if you
wish, but the original is always preserved, unless you want to change it.

Different application, different uses.

Don't know what that means.
