What software do I need?

I have a small business server Win 2003 with Exchange mail and I am hosting
my own email. I have 3 workstations as well. What Symantec anti virus
product do I need? I want the best protection at the least cost.
Is there a difference between the Enterprise and Corporate versions?

What makes you think you will get this from Symantec?

My advice,

try F-Secure. They have excellent solutions for small business and the
management console works great and is simple to use. Although for such
a small network independant (not centrally managed) AV solution would
work fine also. Centrally managed comes into its own with more than 10
PC's.

Er no all versions are resourse hogging, slow, useless rubbish.

If you want true enterprise class security go for Sophos, otherwise go
for NOD 32 or F-Protect.

Sophos is not cheap but it is the enterprise protection solution for
thousands of businesses world wide, price depends on the scale of the
operation.

I use F Protect on all my machines (5 licences / subscription) and
hardware firewalls but then I don't have critical data that is not
backed up or security sensitive ie Credit Cards / addresses etc.

Jonah,

F-Secure (not f-protect) is a far superior Enterprise solution to that
offered by Sophos. It's virus detection is superior also.

If you say so. Most people I deal with use Sophos, some use F-Secure
as you say, TBO I did not think there was much between them but I am
not going to argue as I have not seen F Secure much.

Just did not want the poor guy to suffer from the illusion that Norton
is any use. Was once upon a time and still sells on its reputation,
also I seem to spend half my life sorting out problems caused by NIS
2005 these days.

OTOH I have bought a 2005 VFR on the hours I have put in since
September.

Yeah, you did say you use F-Secure on all 5 of your machines. But you
called it F-Protect. I think you are confused. We haven't even touched
on the technology yet and you are already out of your depth.

Don't worry - no one in here is under this illusion. SAV (Symantec
Corporate Edition) is ok and at the least it is stable.The retail
version is bloated. The majority don't know any better.

I suspect he means Frisk Software's F-Prot for Windows rather than
F-Secure.

Perhaps, he didn't mentioned either though. I mentioned F-Secure when
he was looking for a corporate solution.

The guy wanted a cheap solution, that is my cheap solution.

I also said that Sophos was one of the top corporate AV solutions and
if he wants a decent corporate solution go for Sophos. Anything but
Norton.

You said F-Secure was better and I said I had not seen it but I did
not gainsay you as you have obviously seen both and think F Secure is
better than Sophos. Fine I am happy with that.

F-Secure and F-Protect are 2 entirely different animals, I never said
I use F-Secure at any point in the thread.

So who's "out of their depth eh?" ,"confused" maybe?
