You might get better help using alt.home.repair for your question.

I would help but don't know the answer.

Depends on what you're screwing into and the thickness of the drywall.

For 2x4s and 3/8" drywall, I'd recommend about inch and a half screws.
For sheetmetal studs or thinner drywall, use shorter screws.
But it's mainly a matter of taste or familiarity.

Am a carpenter by trade but hang and tape drywall quite a bit.
On a commercial project or tract homes, these rules apply:
1 1/8 screws for 1/2" drywall
1 1/4 for 5/8" sheetrock which is used in carports

Maybe "PC-homebuilt" means Politically Correct Home Building. The
abbreviation "PC" for Personal Computer doesn't mean much. What's
"personal" about it? Would a issue with a public computer be
irrelevant in this group? PC really just means computer. It makes
sense nowadays to abandon the PC abbreviation, but it's so entrenched
it's unlikely anytime soon.

However, the best group for OP's question would have been
news:alt.building.construction http://groups.google.com/group/alt.building.construction/topics?hl=en
or alt.home.repair as suggested.

A search would given OP the answer too. Wasn't somebody supposed to
criticize him for that?

I had a feeling that this guy posted in the right place. We all have
Guy Skills.

it depends on the thickness of the drywall, but this isn't
the place for drywall info.
