Pictures will be scanned from 35 mm slides. I have scanned some set at 300
dpi and some at 600 dpi. Those scanned at 600 dpi appearto be acceptable when
viewed on the monitor but how would they appear on the video?

I usually convert everything to 72dpi/24bit rgb. You may want to experiment
with doing the conversion before or after cropping images.

depends what you are showing the video on.
Std def tv, then 72dpi is max resolution shown, I normally scan at 150dpi.
Hi def tv then you'd need to scan to the resolution of your tv or a little
more for best results. 300dpi is high, 600dpi is overkill and in my opinion
a waste of time and resources.

Also bear in mind MM works best with bitmap images, like tiff and not so
well with jpeg.

If your movie is all pictures you may consider using the free photostory 3
app from MS.

I have only a few slides (approx. 10) that I plan to scan and use in MM. I
plan to make DVD copies for my adult children. So at this time the movie
will be shown on eiither a std tv or a Hi def tv. I assume most new DVD
players can play both. I think I'll scan to 200 dpi TIFF format which should
cover both std and Hi def. Who knows what the future will be?
Thank you both for your help.

Most new dvd players will not play both, unless you buy a Hi Def blue ray/hd
dvd dvd player and you of course have a hd dvd or blue ray burner in your pc
to make the file as well!!!!!!!

Your choice is a good one.
