What Progams Should Be Disabled When Installing Software Programs with Vista

I will soon purchase a New Dell computer. When ever I install software on
my Dell computer with windows XP Pro, I disable the following: DSL
Connection, NAV antivirus, Screen Saver, ZoneAlarm, and BoClean.

When I receive my new Dell computer with Vista Business, should I disable
the Vista Firewall, DSL Connection, Windows Defender, and Screen Saver
before installing new software programs?? I will also install ESET NOD32
and BoClean programs on the new computer and plan to Disable these them
during a software install.

Any suggestions and/or comments would be very much appreciated, Sam

Can't hurt, I suppose. But I see no reason why it's necessary. I've
never done it and I've been online for over 17 years.

Generally, software being installed will tell you what should be disabled,
if anything at all..

Leave Windows Firewall and Windows Defender enabled. You need both a
software firewall and (at least one) anti-spyware. NOD32 is not a
replacement for the firewall and only in part for Defender, although Eset
offers a suite that includes a firewall.

In my opinion, Vista's built in firewall is sufficient for most home users.
NOD32 is a good choice, this program performs very well in tests.

With NOD32 installed, I can not see why you should need BoClean. NOD32 takes
well care of real-time and zero-day protection.

Vista has built in network management, so you can safely rid yourself of any
Dell replacement for this. There is no need to disable the security programs
in order to install new software.

Why? Almost every software installation tells you to stop or disable
*everything* running, to avoid the possibility of any interference.
However such interference is extremely rare. I never do what you
suggest but just go ahead and install without shutting down or
disabling anything. The enormous majority of time, there is no
problem. Worst case, I can always redo the installation with
everything shut down if necessary.

On *either* XP or Vista, as I said, it is hardly ever necessary to do
any of this. I don't recommend doing so. On the other hand, if it
makes you more comfortable, go ahead and do it. There is no real
downside, as long as you disconnect your internet connection while
your security software is turned off.
