I have some software which should connect to a weather station via a USB
lead, but the software tells me to look in device manager to see what
port no. the usb connector has been assigned. There is no option for
USB, only com ports 1 to 14
Well, I have looked but am no wiser as I have 6 USB ports of which 5 are
in use.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I have researched this question several times. USB does not use 'ports' in
Windows XP, it assigns "Location" (usually zero, but with 6, UMMV)

It could be an extra driver or software package you need to install.
It sounds like the behaver of a usb to serial interface.

Old school hardware connected to com ports. I.E. com1, com2, com3
com4. As Bob said, usb ports don't have port numbers.
