Alright, this has nothing to do with AD, but I post in this forum from time
to time, and would rather ask you lot than anyone else...

What do you use to read these newsgroups??

I'm using OE, and sometimes the Communities website, however I've noticed
that I post via communities and it never shows up outside of communities.

Are there any recommended newsreaders, or's OE the one?

Also, how do you check for new posts? I find I just suck down all posts and
try and wade through them. But I'm missing posts whereby people are
replying to me and therefore I'm not replying back ;-(. What do *you* guys
do??

Thanks,

I have always been a Free Agent fan myself. I have been using Mozilla
Thunderbird for my POP email and just recently decided to start using it
as my news reader and must say I like it! Agent definitely has some
nice features, but in terms if simple and fast (and free), Thunderbird
is very nice. I know that the use of Firefox/Thunderbird might not be a
real popular combo in a Microsoft forum, so take it easy on me.

If you see a person who's opinion you respect, you can always do a "View
Source" on their newsgroup post and see which reader they're using.
Usually if I agree with somebody, I wanna know what software they
use....strange. Sometimes ones credibility can be established (or more
often than not) destroyed simply by the newsreader they use! :) I've
seen NG's that have a "no-reply" policy to people posting from Google.

Looks like in OE, I have to right-click on your post and choose properties
and then details

But I may start doing that ;-)

I primarily use Thunderbird but use OE for some private Microsoft newsgroups.

So OE, Mozilla and Thunderbird seem to be the main ones then.

Anyone use anything else? I've been told that one called xnews is worth
using. Is this any good?

Super Gravity is the one for me, ive recently installed about a dozen or
so different ones and tried them all - dont accept the default layout on
install though, customise to suit your own prefs.

I'm using Xnews here. I switched to it after finding a bug in OE that
wouldn't let you reply to long threads (where the references header got over
255 characters long and OE wouldn't trim it as per the RFC)

It works fine. The filtering (using regular expressions) is brilliant.
