I've run everything, gone through HKEY - removal procedures (none of
which list anything that's on my system), restarted, run in safe mode, did a
silly dance around my computer, etc...

I cannot get rid of -ebates-, and I doubt that's the only thing on my
system... though I'm hoping.

Ad-Aware se keeps finding it.

Are there certain logfiles I can/should post here? There are obviously some
folk here who know a lot about this stuff and would recognize something I
sure won't..

thanks
Andrew

If you have a critter which a cleaner app identifies, but doesn't succeed in
cleaning, please restart in safe mode by pressing the F8 function key before
the first Windows screen appears, and choosing safe mode.

Then scan with (in your case) both Ad-aware, and Microsoft Antispyware.
Scan until a full scan with both products comes through clean.

If this regimen fails, you need to download HijackThis, and post a log
generated by that product to an antispyware forum--one good example of such
a forum is:

Or you can send your HijackThis log directly to me:

(e-mail address removed)

I do these all of the time. You can post it here and I'll
probably see it but no guarantee. I assume you did try to
use the Control Panel,Add/Remove software? Believe ebates
goes by the name Moe Money Maker Software in the
Add/Remove list.

Hey Ron, that's awfully generous of you -

And yeah, I tried that (add/remove) as well as about every other combination
of safe mode, adaware, etc..

thanks,
Andrew
