HI ,
I need a laser printer for home use and i found the HP laserjet 1012 for
170 euro.
The question is : The memory of 8MB is enough?
I mean,if i can print a pdf e-book of 500 pag , a 20 MB picture etc.

PS: Can someone explain me what the memory exactly does?
TIA

Laser printers are PAGE PRINTERS, which means the entire page is
processed and stored in printer memory before it is printed. The whole
page or at least the printer stored image of the page or part page is
printed at once without any more need for data flow from the computer.

Inkjets and dot matrix printers are LINE PRINTERS and a line or part of
a line is all that is stored in memory in the computer.... it prints
either as fast as it can, or as fast as the data can be sent. You can
get herky-jerky printer head movement.

For a laser printer, black and white, you can estimate the memory needed
from equations relating the Dots Per Inch DPI and the image or page size
(length times width). White space typically counts as a part of the
image, because there is no information typically sent to state physical
image size, and the printer wouldn't know what to do with it even if it
were sent.

It is usually best if you just look it up in the printer specifications
rather than calculating it for yourself, especially if you need to ask
the question.
