My sis has a HP 550Mhz computer. Haven't been able to see the insides
because of warranty seals. Anyone know what kind/how much memory this
thing will take? I think it only came with 64M of ram.

It runs the chit outta the hd most of the time.

TIA

Go to www.crucial.com (generally a very good place to buy memory)
and use their web site to identify exactly which
model you've got. It will tell you exacty what your choices
are for memory upgrades, identify the parts, and give yo prices.

I would imagine the warranty has run out by now.

Right click "My Computer" to display amount of RAM.

Go to HP's website, or use a utility such as Aida32 or Sisoft's Sandra to
display the type of ram you have.

A couple of times, HP's and Crucial's websites disagreed on the amount of
RAM an HP system will accept. When I asked Crucial about the discrepency,
the techie said to follow HP's guidelines.

Its prolly SDRAM but u have to check how fast

You *should* be able to get away with sticking a PC-133 (it's backwards
compatible)...but then again, there could be certain proprietary issues
with the HP machine or it may require RAM of a certain sidedness and/or
have a maximum size per RAM card issue. The suggestion to look up the
model at www.crucial.com by another poster was a good one. Also, if you
have the manual (or can download the manual if you know the model type)
you should be able to check in there.
