What is "write protection" and how do you remove it?

I am trying to install an Iomega zip drive with XP. The zip drive was made originally for Win95. I go to "run", type in a:/setup, and click on the floppy a drive icon, then double click on SetupWin95, and I get a message that my diskette-Win 95 5.30 has a write protection, and I should remove it. How do I do that?

Hi,

If you take the disk out and look at the top right-corner, you will see
there is a hole punched into it. On the back of the disk there should be a
little tab that can slide up or down, and if you slide it up it should cover
the hole (thus removing the write protection). Since it is a Microsoft
disk, it may have the tab punched out in which case you could get around the
write protection by putting any type of tape over both sides of the hole.

Did you first verify whether XP has its own driver for
your ZIP drive? I installed mine by simply plugging in
in and starting my computer. Then I downloaded the
latest driver from Iomega to get a few enhancements,
but it worked fine without that.
