what is Thumbs.db

Hello everyone,
I have found on all my files a file called Thumbs.db I do not know where
it came from, but it is on all my files.
Does anyone know anything about it? I am running XP Pro on a Dell computer.
It did not show up until a couple of weeks ago. Tried to send a screen
capture of a file, but to dumb to figure that out. Thank you in advance

Go to Internet Explorer / Tools / Folder Options / View
Make sure both "Hide protected operating systems files" and "Hide extensions
for known file types" are checked.

The first will make the protected 'Thumbs' file visible - normally on the
Desktop, the second, the .db extension.
