Internet Explorer has been my primary browser for a long time but, then one
day, it simply stopped working without reason. When I attempt to open it, I
get the following error message:

Internet explorer has encountered a problem with an add-on and needs to
close. The
following add-on was running when this problem occurred:
File: sfg_5fe9.dll
Company name: (Not Verfied) Safeguard Corporation
Description: Monitors and protects against threats.

Today I tried downloading IE again from Microsoft.com, but then I got a
message stating that there is a more current version of IE on my computer,
therefore, the download window automatically closed. But, again, I am not
able to open the current version of IE so, until I get help with this issue,
I am completely without IE. Any advice?

Peace from Cleveland,

Michael

In Control Panel>Internet Options click Tools>Manage AddOns. If you see it
in this list click disable and IE won't try to load it. Then try running IE.

If this is the right site it should be showing in add/remove programs. If
you cannot open IE far enough to do what Frank suggested try looking
there... should be under settings>control panel.

By the way their site has no privacy policy and they state that "Their"
software does not collect personal info it obviously does send data back
else who would they know the figure to put in their "Popups Stopped" box on
the home page :) There's nothing to say it is not bundled with someone
else's spyware. If you choose to reinstall, watch what it's installing.

Frank,
You ROCK, sir!!!! :))
You have pin-pointed the reason for the error, and now it has been fixed.
Thank you, thank you, and God bless! :)

Happy new year!

Charlie, thanks for your reply. You & Frank were correct - this was a matter
which was corrected in Control Panel's Internet Options. :)

Happy new year!

Michael

Bear, thanx for your reply. The problem was solved through Control
Panel>Internet Options.

Happy new year!

Michael

Kewl...but have you considered that the unwanted software that created the
Add-on may be causing worse problems? I'd want to find and remove all
traces of it, not just disable the Add-on.

YMMV.

Happy new year to you too, and especially thank YOU for telling us all the
outcome since it helps everyone to know when something works.
