I was trying to get the wireless network to work on my hp ze5375. It would
not hook up until the tech at D-Link had me delete the network bridge in
network settings. Now the wireless network works fine.
What is the network bridge's purpose.
Thanks
Joe

A network bridge is used to connect two or more different networks together
using a third machine. For example, you might have Network A, consisting of
several computers connected to your XP machine, and Network B also connected
to your XP machine using a second network card. The XP machine will be able
to see both discrete networks, but they will not be able to see each other.
XP allows you to bridge the connections, so that they can see each other via
the XP machine.

According to MS, if your XP machine is hosting Internet Connection Sharing,
you must bridge multiple networks together if they are all to access the
Internet through the XP machine. I have yet to get this to work in my own
case where my XP machine is connected to Ethernet and wireless at the same
time. Either one will work fine, but the bridge refuses to function and
kills the wireless connectivity.

A bridge connects 2 subnets together. Have a look in the Help & Support
section of XP for more information.

Having said that, I had the same problem with a Netgear wireless network and
I don't know where the bridge came from - I didn't set it up and I had to
delete it to get it to work as well!

I've put a question on this news group but no-one seems able to shed any
light on why XP seems to set one up and stop wireless from working
correctly.

Regards, Jerry
