What is the purpose of files hpothbo7.dat & .tif?

I am downloading .jpg files to "my pictures." These two
files just appeared. At some points in the downloading
process, they say "created error and will shut down".
Sometimes the application is shut down and sometimes it is
not. I can delete both files, but the next time I look,
there they are again.What is thir purpose?

I am not certain but if you have an HP camera or HP imaging software
installed, these files are associated with that.
