Win2K AD, Win2003 DNS server, 4,000 Win2K/WinXP machines.
Co-worker incidentally set up the Win2003 DNS server as 'allow dynamic
updates:none' (primary, not ad integrated).

What's the implication of that ? I am kind of puzzled as how the clients
seem to be working fine. I thought that without dynamic updates I would need
to enter DNS records manually. I am wondering on how I didn't get any
complains about that.

Your AD (replication, authentication, etc) will not work correctly.

Just change it.

Chances are they are (eventually) broadcasting or using NetBIOS names.

Fix it -- point all clients AND servers (including DCs) client properties to
this
internal, dynamic DNS server (set) ONLY.

Then restart NetLogon service on all DCs.
