I wrote yesterday regarding a Windows Reload Failure and
was told that the files were probably too corrupt to
repair XP and that I would need a fresh install on my
niece's computer. My niece and I would like to know what
causes the files to be corrupted so suddenly when
everything was working properly until the computer froze
and then Windows wouldn't reboot. Could you inform us
please? Thanks in advance.

Power loss
Improper shut downs
Running bad programs

You should run chkdsk often
You should run diskcleanup
Also run defrag
Run at least once a week or more.

Adding on to Nick's list: flakey RAM or a hard drive with bad sectors.
