What is the best way to use my partitions

A

Adam

Hello everone

I have a 80 gb hard disk with 3 partitions. Everything is on my c drive. I
am going to move my data onto the D drive.
1.How do I move my favourites, and Outlook express data and settings etc
onto the D drive and
2.What do I do to make sure that in future they go there automatically.

Also,
3. Is there any advantage to moving my programs, (office xp, Norton, Nero,
etc) onto a seperate drive.
4. Are there any types of programs that generally have to be on the same
drive as the OS

Thank

You can change the Outlook Express Store Folder to another drive. Create a
folder called Outlook Express on the D: drive. In OE, select
Tools/Options/Maintenance Tab/Store Folder Button. Click the Change Button
and point it to the new folder you created.

Use the free TweakUI utility to move the Favorites and other common folders
to your D: drive. Open TweakUI and go to My Computer/Special Folders
section.

Download and install TweakUI for Windows XP,

Yes, this can have the effect of keeping the boot partition uncluttered and
optimized.

You can install just about any program to a different partition. Some system
files for these programs will be installed to the boot partition.

By the way, if you feel that you must post a message to multiple newsgroups,
then crossposting one single message to all of the groups is the preferred
method. This keeps all messages on the subject visible to everyone and
avoids wasted time with duplicated information.

I'd have:

About 5-10 Gig for C:
Have OS and long term apps there.
D:your personal files (emain and such), maybe 5 gig or so.
E: The rest for multimedia and apps you don't keep for long (games)
You might want a partition dedicated to your pagefile.sys file.

Having the pagefile in a separate partition (on the same disk as Windows)
actually slows the system down! (as the disk head has to move a lot to write
to it).

However, moving the pagefile onto a SEPARATE DRIVE does speed it up.
