What is the best software to resize a partition?

I've heard Partition Magic has gone downhill since Symantec acquired it... is
there any other software that can resize partitions without having to reformat
the hard drive?

PQMagic, Acronis, Ranish, Paragon are all very
good products. As to which one is the "best", you
might as well ask which is the best car. You're
likely to get as many different replies as there
are respondents. A better question might be
"How do YOU like the product". My answer
would be: Acronis has some innovative ideas
but fails consistently in its quality control.

PMagic 8.02 and below is untainted by Symantec.......Been using the
PMagic product for years, has never let me down.......Software like
this, if used properly and cautiously will yield incredibly good
results........Sometimes the users are the foul-uppers in lots of
problem cases........As to the best? Depends I guess, I've used Acronis
but much much prefer PMagic.......

Hi,
I've been using Acronis Disk Director
[http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/] many
times and it was very, very easy to resize the needed partitions.
First I shrank the size of OS partition create another one and install
second OS.
Everything work clearly.
I trully love this program, as it's the easiest and most fool-proof
software I've ever seen.

As I was not the original poster I appreciate the information
anyway.........

Does the latest Symantec PartitionMagic require activation? I read that it
originally did, but they may have removed it for the latest version? Don't
know if that's true.

I've used Paragon on my NTFS and ext2 partitions ( so far no problems
).

Right on, bro, I just went and bought it for only $20 from some obscure
outfit called Softbay. This was the post I was looking for!

This is badly needed. My Windows 2000 partition is down to 17-80 MB free
and a lot of programs are refusing to install, and it's driving me insane.

You got it bro. PM is da man, supposedly.

Millions of happy users...

Any new stuff added in the Symantec version?

What happened when Symantec got their mitts on it?

Probably just a general paranoia that anything "utility" wise Symantec
touches goes to crap.....I had GoBack one time almost HOSE all of my
partitioned drives when I did a test install of SystemWorks on my other
machine....Luckily it wasn't this machine.....They actually had an exact
description of the problem/fix for it on their site......That's sad when
they know that it could do this yet there's no other way to avoid it
except the obvious of just NOT installing it.........They took over
PowerQuest yet sell a prog like GoBack.........Geeez.

As far as anything different in their version of PM? The new Symantec
ownership look maybe......... ;0)

Symantec added product activation, which means you can only use the product on
one PC. For this type of utility, most people will never use it more than
once on a single computer. IMO, it's not worth buying to use it just one
time. I'm now looking into alternative products.

I just bought PM 8.02 for $20. Good deal. I look forward to using it.

PM 8.02 also requires activation.........You can also run the prog off
of a disk if need be on multiple machines....No need for it to be
installed to windows.
