what is "reliable multicast protocol"

In my network connections, in addition to the normal stuff (TCP/IP 4 and 6,
file and printer sharing, etc) I am seeing "Reliable Multicast Protocol".

Can someone tell me what this is?

It replaces the previously packaged _unreliable_ multicast protocol!
