Mike ... you didn't cross any lines ... all good. It was my lack of
understand that started this.
Thank you all for you input. I understand now.
Jane ... thanks for the explanations. I understood the build number but
didn't know what the RC stood for until Mike explained it in his first
response to my question, and until now didn't understand what the difference
between an RC and a beta. I'll be wiser the next time this all happens.
Now that I'm more inthe know ... is it possible to upgrade (used loosely) to
RC2 or is that not long an option? Perhaps, I missed that window of
opportunity. I only installed this a week ago (I put it off with much
trepidation), so I missed a lot of what's been going on. And so it would
make sense that I just got this thing working to a reasonable performance
level, yesterday ... but it wasn't without a lot of fight and struggle.

Your version is aging rapidly unfortunately, and there have been a few
releases in between 5384 and RTM.. the beta versions, as you might know, are
due to 'crap out' early in 2007.. no doubt you will be looking to upgrade,
and judging by the price structure, it may be cheaper for some to buy a PC
pre-installed. This is certainly true for those who will want all of the
bells and whistles that a 32mb or 64mb video card and 256mb RAM does not
afford.
I liked Vista from the start.. the look and feel were/are good. I made XP
look like Vista using a sidebar utility and the Royale Noir theme from Media
Centre 2005, and it was all good too. One gets used to an OS, knowing where
everything is. I am having to learn again and in doing so, strangely, I feel
like I have let XP down.. I still have it on my system, and have to use it
for some functions pending the release of 3rd party applications I have
used, but Vista is the way to go..
Re. humor, yes, it is important, even in something like Microsoft newsgroups
where one is expected to remain professional at all times.. I think that it
is possible to combine both, and people should not take it badly.. light
relief is always a good softener, a smile or a laugh, especially when facing
the tide of technology.. I try to keep it as humor too.. the line between
humor and sarcasm is thin and, at times, the many personal struggles that I
face cloud that line.. I trust that I did not cross the line in this
instance..
