What is pagefile.sys for? I a 4.5Gn hard drive it takes 1Gb
If I delete it, what would be repercutions?

Hello aa,

It is the "Virtual" RAM used by the Operating system if the physical RAM
is not able to handle all work at that moment from the computer. By default
it is set to 1,5 from your physical RAM (recommended by MS).

It's an area on your hard drive that Windows uses like RAM, temporily
writing info it's using. You can't delete the file without real
problems, but if you have plenty of RAM you can make the page file smaller.

How much RAM do you have in the machine? You cannot delete the file but
you might be able to reduce its size or move it to another hard disk on
a different drive controller. You can monitor the pagefile usage with
perfmon (Performance Monitor) and then decide if it can be smaller.

Unless you installed virtually nothing under win2k 4.5gb is a bare minimum.
You should set the page file to let win manage.
