What is NET Runtime Optimization Service?

I almost didn't install the Net Framework updates yesterday, because of
the problems I read about for people who use some browsers other than
IE. Then I decided maybe this was correcting something I already had
installed and let it upgrade.

My question is what is this above name "service" actually doing? TIA,
for any responses. :)

Ngen is typically associated with the earlier versions of .NET and during an
install
or Service Pack upgrade Ngen will consume most of your CPU processing power
until the install has fully completed, which is about 1 or 2 minutes 'After'
you see the 'Finished' or 'Reboot' message pop up.
Thanks for the link & response. Guess I'll wait and see if my
experience is better or worse after optimization. ;)
