I am using the fax software on windows XP and I get a lot of fatal errors. I
think it may have to do with compatibility with the fax hardware. Can anyone
recomend a good board or USB device?

Mark,
I put a CourierT 56K* V.92 Business Modem on our system.I
put this modem in place of the USR 56K External Fax\Modem.
The new modem virtually stopped the receive errors. My
experience with dedicated fax boards are that there are no
drivers for these devices. The drivers are written for the
devices by the software vendor and are only available by
the software vendor. Brooktrout TrueFax 100 is one that I
have worked with; trying to get it to work with FacSys 4.7
SP3. The problem here is support; you must pay for a
support contract or a per incident basis with EmFast to
configure or get help with Facsys. I chose to cut my
losses in this case and removed Facsys and the fax board.
There is a Brooktrout model available for Microsoft Shared
Fax.
