What the hell is going on with all this "Microshit" spam and bullshit attachments
and why the hell isn't Microsoft doing something about it.

I have to get myself a new email address every few weeks because my mailboxes
are overflowing with Micros**t spam and attachments.

Microsoft won't have a single customer left if they don't act soon.

well, the problem is: the internet is open and free - everybody with some
"negative energy" can create mails with a "wrong" sender-adress...

You could create mails too that would look like MS ones... and? what should
MS do against it? They cannot filter the whole world of mails just to make
sure that nobody else is using their names.

This happens all the time - unfortunatly...

and because such spammers or virus-senders are working with
3rd-party-proxies and other tricks it's nearly impossible to find out where
and who they are :-(

Don't use your real email address to news groups, then the spammers won't be
able to harvest it.
If someone has pi$$ed you off, use theirs instead ;-)

yeah, change your email to an invalid one or "jayd(AT)microsoft.com" in the
news groups. this will require them to type it in as apposed to copy paste.
also, if you have your email out on a public website you should have it in
the form of an image... so I have a image of my email address not the char..
phrase (e-mail address removed).

a note: to get back at these spam bast**ds you could put about 5000 bad
email addresses "behind the scenes" on your web page

Ofcourse they are..:-)..you must have noticed that it has come down quite a
bit.Its an open forum so its not that easy to control.Instead of changing
your address you can give your address as (e-mail address removed),

Let's not fool ourselves. We are all programmers. Can't we write programs to
convert AT to @ or remove the words like 'spam' etc and send mails? Few
years back we didn't think of writing legal programs that send automatic
e-mails. Now they are written as high school projects. There were times when
LAN's were not able to talk to Main-frames. Don't you laugh at such
situations? We are well into 5 GL (?)

Filters are the best weapons against such spam and virus. Hotmail and
Microsoft is capable of applying them. They have all the technology. But
they lent them only for a price. If you don't want to change your id's, pay
up. It appears as if they are holoding them up just to force free e-mailers
to subscribe to paid services. Every one wants money, including you and me.
It was like a 5-year free trial. Trial period is now over.

Amit, it has not come down. Even now I delete about 20+ virus e-mails
everyday after the 10 filters allowed by free hotmail. When they could trace
the origin of major virus, why not this SWEN. Probably it didn't affect the
powerful.

ThanQ...

If you are talking about emails from Microsoft Network Security Division
[ikdcugmbnttt_hjkc@advisor_msdn.com]

and all of the other virus emails purportedly from Microsoft from the day I
first posted here - yeah - why? But on the other hand, what could MS do
about it? Clearly it's a kid with nothing better to do than to send out
viruses. I would think anyone posting here is sophisticated enough a geek
to be able to filter out kid sh&t like this. Annoying as hell though, I
agree. I forwarded all of it to a few federal law enforcement friends and
told them Merry Christmas, have at.

Unfortunately that will only p*ss off more people as the (apparent) senders
of the emails are usually innocent email adresses from the same harvest.
Thus, you will just help with generating more unwanted email ("I am sorry to
have to inform you that the recipient address is unknown").

Kill the mail at its source, upgrade your antivirus software and spamfilters
often and put up a petition for death sentence to spammers/virus writers.

Just my 2 cents
