Hi Everyone, is there a smooth way of transferring files from a windows98
desktop computer to a Windows XP laptop? What methods or programs do you
use for keeping files from Win98 and use them in WinXP?

In the past I have located & saved My Documents, .pst files, the
outlook express email folder, Favorites, History, email settings, etc. and
moved them to the XP machine. This is timeconsuming and we are wondering if
there is a smoother way?

Thanks for any help at all!!! katy & karen

Hi Katy & Karen,

Have you looked at using the Files and Settings TransferWizard yet
(fastwiz)?

You could connect the two computers together with a small home network.
Then you can just drag and drop between them. You can get kits to do this
e.g. by Belkin. It's easy with XP, but can be tricky with Win 98 unless
it's one of the updated later editions.

Assuming your Windows 98 system has a burner, the simplest way to move files
would be to burn them to CD.

From the wording of your post, if you are talking about applications as
well, they cannot be moved, you need to reinstall them on XP.
