What is curriculum vitae?

A cv (as it's known) is the European equivalent of a resume; so where
Americans use resume Europeans use a cv. It's the same thing.

That's completely wrong.

A cv lists everything you've ever done relevant to your academic
advancement -- your education, the positions you've held, the honors
and awards you've received, and all your publications.

A resume is a single side of a single page that you hand to the
personnel office (aka Human Resources) hoping to con them into hiring
you.

Although they are mostly equivalent, there are some subtle differences
between the two. Seehttp://jobsearch.about.com/cs/curriculumvitae/f/cvresume.htm

That webpage is accurate. What it describes is hardly "subtle
differences."
