Hi what is "beta" version of the antspyware program? It
keeps saying beta, but I don't know what it means.

Beta is the preliminary release of the software. It is
the version before the 'Alpha', or final version. A Beta
release allows users to test it and help find any bugs in
the software, which Microsoft will fix before the final
release.

Thanks

No, it's the other way around: an Alpha version is even more preliminary
than Beta.

A Beta release ought to be feature-complete, but as yet untested.

An Alpha release is usually not even complete yet, sent out for evaluation.

So will Microsoft still update the program after they
have released the beta version? If so, if I downloaded
the beta and Microsoft updated it, could I just udpdate
the program without reinstalling it? Thanks

No. It's the version *after* alpha. An alpha version is a proof of concept.
A beta version is pre-production.

You will also generaly get a Relesea Candidate (RC) which
is suposed to have had all the bugs fixed and is relesed to
make sure there are none left before the application is
properly released (sometimes refered to as "going gold":
The "masters" that the final CD's are made from
are[/where?] actualy made of gold).
The final Beta and RC can sometimes be the same thing, in
addition the RC is sometimes only be relesed to a smaller
number of testers/users.
