In case you haven't already realised, it is important NOT to use that hard
drive in order to preserve the information on it (warts and all).

It is important that whatever software you decide to use, it should be
installed and used on another hard drive for the same reason.

Regards.

If you are certain the problem is with the MBR, there are methods to
repair......see above Google search results.

Got it. Rest of the story...This "bad" drive was the boot drive. It is a
120gb SATA Seagate. Was able to runHDTune on it which showed a 45mb bad
block. Swapped the cabling for the primary and secondary drive, also 120gb
SATA Seagate, and reinstalled XP Pro SP2 onto good drive. Left bad drive
totally disconnected.
Additional question: When I reconnect "bad" drive as secondary SATA what
problems am I looking at?? Are there any special steps after I go into BIOS
and set it up as AUTO?? Will XP recognize it after restarting? Thought I
would ask before I fired it up.
Thanks Bob

I run Restoration from a 3 1/2" floppy. Restoration doesn't even need to be
installed.
