What is another name for the root folder?

The root folder may be commonly known as various names such as "www", or
"public_html", or "htdocs" etc, depending on what your host calls that
folder. But the root folder is that which is the top level of the directory
tree within your hosting space, and within that you have your sub-folders.

When you file > publish site, the first folder you see with all your files
is the root folder. In FP publishing your can't 'go higher' than your root
folder, but in a standard FTP program you can go on level higher as this is
a common place for publishing database files - above/outside the root folder
one level up from your root folder - so, a script can read/write to it, but
it cannot be browsed or downloaded just by typing the URL directly to the
file, since it is not in the actualy heirarchy of the web site.
