What is a .PNF extension?

I installed a few programs and played around with IE in Control
Panel's Add/Remove. A few hours later, I noticed a bunch of files
with the extension of .PNF in my C:\Winnt\Inf folder. What are they,
how did they get there and can I delete them? Any ideas would be
appreciated
 
They are pre-compiled INF files. Yes you can delete the *.PNFs, but they
will come back over time since it is a binary representation of the INF
files.
