Without more information, I would think that there are several ways to
insert a line in a Word document. One general way to insert a non-graphic
line is to insert a series of line characters, such as the underline:

A graphic line, however, I would interpret as something that you draw using
Word's drawing tools. How you do this depends on which version of Word you
are using. Assuming 2007, click the Insert tab, Shapes, and choose the
desired type of line. You then drag to create the desired length of line.
Use the Drawing Tools - Format tab - Shape Outline tool to set the color,
thickness, etc.
