What is a GATEMAC Network?

New DELL Desktop delivered 12/24. In reviewing NortonIS2008 logs for
1/2, I found the entry "connected to trusted network (GATEMAC) 0A 00
3E 23 63 46" with a threat rating of Low. This network utilized many
ports from 49945 to 50085. I checked IPCONFIG and I list three
"Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection*" entries numbered 6 , 7 and
9 .

Is this a "normal" part of Vista's status reporting architecture, or
is this some kind of port-stealing malware? Scans with Norton and
Defender show nothing. I have looked everywhere that I as a novice
user can think of, with no results, and would sure appreciate any help
from the Group.

Thanks, Hawkeye

I've noticed the same thing -- connections to GATEMAC network, and around the
same time, the hard drive randomly starts spinning and then stopping about
every 30 seconds or so. I reboot and it usually stops, but starts again
eventually.

Anyone know what this is?

I too have had this reported in my norton history. It occurs immediately after connecting to my BT Home hub, and the entry in the log gives the mac address of the bt home hub. This means that the entry is almost certainly benign and is related to something in the router, probably the router software. The entry for the bt home hub is probably the entry for the connection to the hardware.

Hope this puts your mind at rest.
