What I want in a printer

Dan

I need a fast printer for my business, color and BW printing. I
print lots of text/financial type material in a month (500+pages) I
also print color "flyers" and brochures on a small run, (50 - 100
pages/month) My PC is also my POS terminal, so I want a printer that
will not slow up my 2.4 Celeron when doing a 25 page color item.

I am leaning to the HP 2500 LaserJet. Price is in my range, I can buy
here locally. What do you think? What I really hate are printers
that have the PC do all the "work", then feed the information to the
printer as it needs it. Makes for slow operations of other
applications.

What I have read so far online has leaned me to the HP L.jet 2500

TIA.

Xerox Phaser 7700 for maximum quality/productivity.

Or, check out http://www.freecolorprinters.com to see if maybe you
qualify for their freebie.

You don't care about price--what it costs you to acquire. What you DO
care about is how much the bloody thing costs you on an ongoing basis.

What good is a $1000 printer if you spend $1000/month on it for
supplies? Buy the $5000 printer instead if it costs you only $100/month
in supplies.

The above is theoretical, but you get the point.

Right. You don't want a Windows printer, you want a printer with its
own processor on board.

Xerox Phaser 7700.

Actually, what you'll hate more is feeding an expensive printer.

The LJ2500 is rated at 4PPM in color, which is not very fast. And
manufacturer ratings, like EPA gas mileage ratings, tend to be
optimistic.

There's not much information on the Okidata 5300N on the web yet,
but it might be worth investigating as an alternative.

With lasers though the quoted ppm tends to bear some relation to the
real printing spped - once data has reached the printer and it starts
printing, but the quoted ppms for inkjets seem to be the maximum speed
of the engine which is only seen when it has a fit and feeds out blank
pages!
