An example of a computer that I cleaned out today (semi-manually)
I removed these files from a Dell inspiron 3800.
XP Pro with "AOL Protection"
Customer admitted to clicking on free porn and other banners

This is a mix of Trojans/Spyware/Adware that I removed before I could run a
scan. (the PC would not even see my USB drive correctly)
I'm dropping the extensions (most .exe) 'cause they don't matter much, well
not for this post.
I then ran PestPatrol and it took out 700 or so registry entries and some
other files. also the Winsock was infected so I had to clean that too.

Took an hour and a half.
I was orginally called to fix a TCPIP error.

How's the weather on the other side of the Big pond ?

Mat - 28.04.2005 02:37 :

you and many others: please, don't unnecessary quote ~ 80 quoting lines
again only to post these two words. Please, learn to quote for a better
usenet behavior. (BTW: buttom posting instead of top posting would be
fine). THX.

I'm impressed you could do that in an hour and a half.
Besides Pest Patrol do you mind saying what you used ?

Thanks.

Other than Pest Patrol , I used HiJackThis, LSP winsock repair, Mwav, and
Process Explorer (to verify only legit programs were running after the
cleanup).
Then I go back and look at the properties of files I'm not sure of Root
of C: then C:Windows and C:Windows\System

Links:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4180.html LSP
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html Will repair a Winsock
that is really toasted. * Do not use with 98.*
http://www.sysinternals.com/ Process
Explorer
http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/mwav.asp This finds both virus and malware
but it is $9.95 a month (just download the demo and delete the files it
finds yourself)

Hope the info helps

Oh, another bottom feeder.

Didja ever try following a thread using Google?
A thread where everyone bottom posted?
Im-****in-possible. Cain't be done.
Bottom posting is a relic of the past.
Get over it.

Google archive rules.
Bottom posting sucks.

bullshit, i've done it... when people quote selectively it's easily done...

in fact, when people quote selectively there should be absolutely no
problem whatsoever... bottom posted material won't be that hard to find
(because the quote is selective so you should never have to scroll down
pages and pages worth of quoted material) and any material improperly
excluded from the quotation can easily be found by going back in the
thread...

selective quoting rules, lazy arseholes who don't know how to use the
tools they've got suck...

Not even comparable to top or bottom posting.

Have you ever tried to follow a long thread with OE where the bottom and top
posters rarely snip anything?
Aggravating and time consuming.
Perhaps your NewsReader automatically goes to the bottom of the message, OE
doesn't
I find it much easier to follow top posted long threads or those that quote
selectively.

OE doesn't automatically snip well-formed signatures.

consuming.

It certainly is.

of the message, OE doesn't

OE works well with the PageDown key, though. The question is why don't
most OE users realize this?

I'd be happy just to eliminate TOFU.

I see you've just proved Kurt's statement. Not only did you full-
quote, but you left in his signature.

No, I guess you are an idiot.

Why is it that those incapable of understanding something always say
they don't care - as if they were capable?
