What has happened to Gurney?

I know I shouldn't be complaining but curiosity has got the better of me.

There has been no post from our self appointed newsgroup policeman for
nearly 2 weeks. However, I have noticed the odd reply to a non existent
post. I thought I had killfiled him but, no I haven't. Just checked on
google newsgroups advanced search and there are about a dozen or so posts
from him that are not present here (or at least not visible). Has someone
got the message and blocked him?

I was wondering as well. I've checked, and he's not in my kill file either.
I've not seen any post from him since the 17th June. I have seen a couple
of replies to invisible posts.

AFAIAA, Microsoft do not monitor or read this newsgroup so it's unlikely
that he's been blocked (at least by them). Besides the few replies that
there are to his boring posts suggests that they are not blocked but being
filtered somehow (and not to everyone).

My reader is showing 11 of them in the past week here. Granted I'm
only showing new, and I have a filter that marks him as read. So
that's not unexpected. BUt still I see quite a few of him on my
thunderbird. And I'm reading from microsoft's server.

You might be experiencing a problem I had with Cox Cable and it's
newsgroups. They appeared to be filtering messages by the sender's
domain which made reading any thread quite interesting. The posts are
out there, just not on your server. Cox was filtering about 1/3 of the
messages in the groups I watch and there was no notice, even with their
tech support that they were doing this.

Just popped over there and, no, there aren't any posts from him there

Either they aren't on whatever server you subscribed to or you blocked
him. They are are on the Menses server.

Nope. Not time to do that yet.

Wow! A message from Gurney that doesn't include "ask elsewhere." Are we
making progress or not?

Yes, in this thread dated June 30, 2008.

Not so - it isn't here.

I've just found a whole raft of Gurney message headers in another newsgroup.
However all the messages behind those headers have been deleted. Maybe
someone is blocking his posts after all.

We all wish!

The "Nope. Not time to do that yet." was in Gurney's message dated
6-30, at least in my msnews.microsoft.com newsreader.

Just checked. No such message.

Not time to do what?

I see from one or two replies that Gurney has changed his name to Edric.

However, while the headers are present in this and other MS newsgroups, the
messages have been deleted. Is MS doing this? I understood that they
didn't even monitor these newsgroups.
