I can get msnews.microsoft.com.
I seem to have lost all connection to news-server.rochester.rr.com today. Even
Road Runner's Help Page is out of commission. Last night the Rochester Road
Runner's Home Page was out of commission for awhile but it came back. Today, all
of MySpace was down for over an hour.

I read last night on a Road Runner newsgroup that Road Runner was going to
outsource their news-servers soon. Is this what happens when they outsource? No
service? Anybody know what's up with Road Runner?

How do I log in to webmail?
I lost my password.
Tell me about Video Mail.
How can I set up newsgroups?

Cannot receive any newsgroups in news-server.rochester.rr.com as of today. All
was fine for the previous 5 years.

Ask TWC:

It's hard for me to understand long questions like that, but maybe this answer
will be helpful:

Sorry, I either didn't understand your question or don't know the answer.
Remember, right now I only answer questions about Road Runner.

Try rephrasing your question or typing ? for a list of topics I can help you
with.

It's happening here in New York State, too. Here's a piece of the transcript
from my chat with them::

Thomas Lake: I'm trying to get on Usenet but the news server gives me permission
denied. It worked fine this morning
Thomas Lake: 502 Permission denied - connection denied
Jon H: I understand, we are currently changing our newsgroup servers to a new
provider so there maybe issues connecting every now and then for the next week or so.

Bots running the help desk... uh-oh! Try "cannot receive newsgroups" or
"newsgroup problem" or "get a real human on the line, please"

| Is it possible that these servers are down for maintenence?

They're still down. Might have to wait until January for resumption of services
from what Mr. Lake wrote. Ahhh, it's the holiday season anyway. Time to do other
things.

You mean, time to finally sit down and get caught up with friends around
the world, right? I hope they reimburse you for the downtime.

Outsourcing news service is very common for local providers. They
simply do not think it is a valuable part of their service.

Premium News Services like Easy News, GigaNews, SuperNews etc. love
local providers. The local providers with their lack of service,
drive more customers to preimum news services than any other reason.

my RR was down for a short while yesterday late afternoon. central time zone.
when it resumed NO new messages.
RESET server data base and all is well.

It seems as though I cannot connect to any of the Microsoft public VISTA
newsgroups in XP only. In XP I can connect to other Microsoft public
newsgroups. No problems with Vista newsgroups using Windows Mail
in Vista.

I have to reset each newsgroup to get new messages after the switchover. Right
click on Properties, select Local File, and hit the Reset button. That erases
the old messages, but the new ones won't download. So I have to reset 2
newsgroups first, then go back to the first one and then messages download for
the first one. Then go back to the second newsgroup to get the first 1000
messages there.

On subsequent days, new messages won't always download and I need to repeat the
Reset process.

My posts to some newsgroups take several hours to appear.

Today the newsgroups hang when I send posts then I get a "Server not available"
error message (TCP/IP error message too).

This new deal RR has come up for newsgroups sucks so far.

Just reading posts is becoming much more difficult because they take so long to
load just one post into the window.

Still have to give them until next year to improve service. Their wires are
getting all crossed.
