mb: asus p4p800-e deluxe
uP: P4 2.4 ghz, 800mhz fsb, 512k internal
no overclocking going on.
PC idling on desktop, I plugin an older Intel Netcam to install drivers, and notice
the pc is locked up. I press the reset button. PC doesnt post, but begins power
cycling off, then back on, off then back on, off, on and I turn off the psu at the
rear of the case.
I remove/disconnect all but ram, video card, mouse & keybd and speakers. Apply power
and Asus AI post reporter announces "System failed cpu test", over & over.
So I cannot connect any dots between usb device & uP failure. The only common
component is the mobo. I would like to hear some ideas as to what you all think
happened. Was the P4 sensing some malfunction of the power supply and shutting on
down ?
Right now I dont trust either the mobo or the uP. Thanks in advance for your
thoughts.

Go into your bios and list for me your USB settings please.. We can take it
from there;

Scott,
The uP has failed and the board cannot be booted to obtain usb settings.
(Asus AI post reporter announces "System failed cpu test", over & over.)
(note: Asus AI reporter does not require the mobo to be booted)
Awaiting parts from newegg.com

It could be anything - but it's most likely the Motherboard. Could also be
the PSU, so I'd swap that before anything else.

The only way to be certain, is to try different RAM/CPU/Video in your board.
