What happened to the Windows x64 RTM build?

I had downloaded it the other day(nite and day again) from MSDN. I went back
in this morning and saw that it wasn't there. Did I actually get the RTM x64
Vista?

The file name is: en_windows_vista_x64_dvd_X12-40712.iso.

When I go into my download preferences and try to download it, I get an
'Access denied' error.

So, did I really get the x64 RTM version?

Thanks.

Hello,

Any information in when the x64 version will be available again? I can't
wait to install it on my Turion 64.

Thanks,
Martin.

This is the notice on the Connect website for TechBeta folks who were
offered the freebie. Obviously it pertains to MSDN and TechNet customers as
well.

"NOTE: Due to server load the X64 package has been temporarily removed. If
you have already started downloading you will be able to continue but no new
FTM sessions will start. Please check the newsgroups for the latest
details.

vista_6000.16386.061101-2205_x64fre_client-LRMCxFRE_EN_DVD.iso

CRC Value: 0xCE211A58"

In other words, keep hitting the download sites until it reappears.

I'm still waiting for it to come back up as well.
My download of X64 had gotten to only 0.5mb remaining before it got taken
offline.....

Maybe i should just burn what i've got and hope that there was nothing in
that last half a megabyte

You can try it but don't be surprised if it doesn't work. I suggest you try
the image in VPC 2007 beta first. If it will install into a vm then burn
the image to dvd and install on the target machine.

Vista x64 in VPC 2007...? How do you do that...?

Install VPC 2007 beta, create a new virtual machine, insert the Vista dvd in
your host drive, capture the drive with the drive icon in the virtual
machine console, reset the virtual machine and Vista will install exactly as
it would on the host computer. Allow 1GB ram for the virtual machine (the
default is OK but it go faster with 1GB). Think of the virtual machines you
create with VPC as ordinary computers and proceed with installation of an OS
just like you would on any real machine.

LOL! Re-read my previous post, paying particular attention to the subject of
this thread...

Mark:
The title line of this post was answered. Then a question was asked
about installing an almost complete download which an answer was given. Then
you asked "how do you do that?" which was answered. The thread changed but
answers were given to questions asked. Evolution within a thread is very
common and I don't see anything wrong with anything posted in this thread.
Maybe you could've started a new thread with your question.

Except that any x64 version of any Windows will not run in Virtual
PC......no 64 bit guest operating system support. Virtual Server also has
no 64 bit guest support.

VMWare does though, providing you have a cpu with VT.

Indeed... :-)

Good catch. I forgot about that one.
