what happened to the Windows Update?

Got a "Windows has an update ready to install..." bubble
in my taskbar as I have many time as before and no
problems, I then [as usual] proceeded with the update
directives,"Windows needs to re-start in order for it to
complete installation.." I closed down my programs and
allowed the re-start, the UNusual part is upon the
completed re-start, there was no evidence that files had
been installed-no graphic view of files being downloaded
into folders. I then went right to my "Windows Update"
and it said "no critical updates at this time..", with the
same updates available as I had seen before and rejected.
Any ideas on this?

When you see this message the updates have already been downloaded. They are
installed when you proceed, and the computer is restarted. What you see
appears to be normal. If you want to check to see if the updates are
installed you can go to the update site, click the left pane, click View
Installation History.
