I have just upgraded from an NT4 domain to windows 2000 which went ok
except for folder redirection which used to be so simple. Details are
I used to use poledit to redirect all users to a local desktop folder.
Users have read only access to that desktop so all desktops were
always identical.
From everything I have read Microsoft now uses folder redirection
instead. I have tried everything and can't get it to work. Strangely
enough if I put a test user in the domain admins group they get the
dektop no problem , as an ordinary user they don't. I have pasted the
workstation event log below.
I have tried unchecking the box "Grant the user exclusive rights to
desktop " but still no good. The other policies seem to be kicking in
ok.
Event Log (errr 101)
Failed to perform redirection of folder Desktop. The new directories
for the redirected folder could not be created. The folder is
configured to be redirected to c:\winnt\admin\desktop, the final
expanded path was c:\winnt\admin\desktop. The following error
occurred:
This security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object.
