I have the same problem if anyone can help us it would be great!

I Have had the same problem, iv been editing movies and 3 so far have been
fine.
The movie i am editing the sound does not worked once i have saved it, but i
have editied another since and it was fine.
I have spent a good part of a day editing this movie and dont wish to delete
it, also as it is saving the estimated time goes right upto around 1,000
minuits and then quickly goes down to 30?
Can anyone help??
Thanks
(please dont take offence at my name as im good really)

I am also having a very similar problem. Exception is that I do not get sound
in preview window either. I have transferred VHS to DVD and 8mm camcorder to
DVD in Sept 05, but when I came to repeat the process - nothing! I am
beginning to think the Sound on my capture card has packed up.
I sound from all my other devices but not while trying to capture through my
Hauppauge PVR150MCE card. I even bought Pinnacle, couldn't get sound or video
through that, didn't spend much time tryig to work out the video side though.

Hi there - did anyone find solutions to this? I have a 'soundtrack' under my
visuals and when I save the movie file I end up with silence.

I have sound when I am editing and when I preview the movie but not after I
have saved it...

Thanks if anyone does have a solution!

Andy.

Where is the soundtrack? Is it in the "Audio" or the "Audio/Music" portion
of the timeline?
If it is in the audio portion and the video is MPEG then that is likely the
reason it is happening as MPEG files do not work well in Movie Maker and
hence should be converted to AVI.
If it is in the Audio/Music section then what type of audio are you using?
MP3's sometimes don't work with WMM either and when that happens you should
convert them to WMA or WAV.

Hey Wojo.

The audio was in the audio/music portion and it was indeed an mp3 - changing
it to wav did the trick.

Thanks very muchly.

Your welcome, glad I could help.

Okay, I've just about had it with this program. I have some video with audio
included, and some videos with music playing in the audio tray, and neither
of them have sound. I've tried using the videos as MPEGs and AVIs, and the
music as an MP3, WAV, and WMA, and nothing has worked. Any ideas?

Grahams suggestion is a good one but if that doesn't seem to be the problem
it may be codec related.
What I have started doing, at it has worked almost every time so far, is to
direct people to download the Windows XP Codec pack from here:
http://www.free-codecs.com/
It overwrites bad or corrupt codecs of the same types that you may already
have plus there may be some important ones that you do not have. As I said
this usually works.

Okay, I checked the clips with audio, and no, the audio isn't disabled, it
just isn't playing.

I also tried the codec pack. Now Movie Maker runs very slowly, projects
take ten minutes to open, and it doesn't play the project or individual clips
of audio or video. At all.

Well this is a new one on me. I have never had anybody say the codec pack
made things worse but that does tell me that you likely have a software
issue and it is likely to be codec related.
Have you downloaded any codecs off the internet other than from the website
I noted?
The reason I ask is because there are many codecs out there that contain
viruses and other malware so I am just wondering if that is where the
problem stems from.

Then I truly am at a loss (I hate when that happens)
I really don't know what to tell you. The only things left I can think of
are simply that your video files are corrupted or that you have a virus
causing some problems with your codecs. I am out of suggestions that don't
relate to reinstalling XP and I hate even thinking about suggesting that to
people.

No, I haven't downloaded any codecs outside of the XP codec pack that you
mentioned earlier.
Could you retrack the actual issues?

a) Was there a time when these specific files did playback
and sonics functioned? If so, Did you try system restore?
b) Do all other sounds play as normal? eg: Windows boot theme?
c) Is there no sonics of any kind from your PC? If so, have you
checked your soundcard in device manager?
d) "some videos with music playing in the audio tray" - what do you
mean by "audio tray"? Do you mean the audio timeline in MM?
