If you and your friend are both behind firewall/NAT/router devices then look at this KB article for
an explanation of what may or may not be supported...

One solution, if you can't get Messenger to work, is to have your friend setup an account with one
of
the dynamic naming services that map a fully qualified domain name to the IP. In my case I use a
FREE service from No-IP.com. The No-IP.com software runs on one of my XP Pro boxes and on a time
schedule basis contacts the No-IP.com servers. The No-IP.com servers then know what your IP is and
maps that to a fully qualified domain name. That information is then propagated over the public
internet. You could then call the client PC using the fully qualified domain name. It works very
well for me when I call my home network using Remote Desktop or a PPTP VPN link.

Others, some free and some $$$$...

You could then have your friend generate the invitation file with a 99 day expiration time and mail
it to you. Once you get the invitation file, simply modify the RCTICKET field in the file using the
dynamic naming service fully qualified domain name and save it (with a short cut on your desktop) on
your PC. You could then simply click the short cut when you need to access the client PC. This page
illustrates how to modify RA so you can have a 99 day expiration period. This is done on the friends
PC in your case.

after i recieved the invite, i was unable to connect after 5-6 times no luck, i also tried sending
her an invite still no good, all firewalls were down so i don't know , i opened the invite file in
notpad, and noticed it only diplayed my local network ip address from my router 192.168.1.101:3389,
and that was it with the next line my computer name, what is causing it not to assign my ip address
form my default gateway? please help.. thank you!
