I just got my laptop back from my daughter and my desktop is now smaller
and centered in the middle of the screen. How do I get it back to
normal? Please see photo of what it looks like. If I change the
settings it goes back to normal, but my icons are smaller. I never had
this problem before. For two years I had it at 800 by 600 pixels and
now it won't accept it. Please help. Here is the link for the photo.
Thanks.

If you just need to change the size of icons, 1.right click on desktop
2. Select properties
3. Click on Appearance
4. On the scroll down list there is icon size and icon spacing. First
increase size then spacing.

If the settings of your 800 X 600 holds and the icons are small the
above will work. If not she might have changed the adapter setting.

The native resolution for an LCD panel is 1024 x 768.. one would have to
alter the setting to 'large fonts'.. this may be the case with 800 x 600..
alter to large fonts after setting 800 x 600..

You can go into the settings and see if the proper video adapter is
chosen. Do you know the adapter name and brand? Maybe she or a friend
played with the settings and the PC defaulted to standard vga not the
setting for your notebook.

OK.. so now you use the controls on your keyboard that adjust the size of
the window on your screen.. as said, the native resolution of your LCD
panel is 1024 x 768.. any other resolution will require manual sizing..

So far, none of the suggestions have worked. I need more advance advice.
Please help. This is frustrating.

Go to the laptop manufacturer web site and download the latest video drivers
for your machine.. I would direct you to the part of the web site that you
need, but for the fact that we do not know what make or model..

You might also want to ask your daughter what she did to it.. has it been
loaded with a generic version of XP?.. if this is the case, then a visit to
the manufacturer is a must, not only to get video drivers, but also the
correct drivers for all of the other internal devices..

If it is beyond your ability to navigate to the manufacturer web site, you
will have to take it to a competent local repair shop and get them to do
it..

NO.
Why not just try the controls on the MONITOR & leave the computer alone?
See them buttons? Try it.
