I am trying to create a colourful web page to upload, so to do that I need
to save it as gif, how many colours can I have,.........sorry I am new to
this, I am trying to learn by trial and error...

it really depends on the original image...some photographic images will
convert to .gifs ok...some don't. You just have to learn by experimenting
with your image editing program...or graphics program, to see.

..gif is anywhere from 2 colors to 256, and transparency

If it's a photo that yu are going use as a seamless background, you can just
save it as a jpg, like most other photos. A seamless-tile photo is still
just a photo like any other.
