What does transfer wizard really do?

I've got old machine up on the network - it has a C and a D drive,
both IDE. Some apps are on C; others on D. Both have a Program files
folder.

New machine is up, on same network. SATA, and large enought to
accomodate all of C and D from old machine.

If I invoke the transfer wizard, what really moves? The application?
Or just the associated data?

I've looked at the app, and there is not a lot of detail.... Does it
really move, or copy? Can I always go back to the old system and find
it intact?

Thanks for help and comments.

The settings of SOME of your programs and files you created/saved.
(Although you can do some manual tweaking.)

You have to install the applications you desire on the new machine and you
should definitely do that before invoking the file & settings transfer
wizard - at least on the import part.

It copies.

Thanks for comments and help guys!

I migrated 2 users (separately) and all seems to be well... It even
found my OE message store which was on a separate drive ....

I've noted that the OE logon requires me to enter the password, and
the option to "save password" is greyed out.....

Is there a fix for that?

I know it's not "proper" etiqutte to to post, but wanted to share and
ask....

The migration went well, or so I thought....

Old Machine

XP SP 2,
C: IDE
D: IDE

New Machine
Before Migration

XP SP2,
C: Card reader (USB)
D: Floppy
E: CD
F: 320 Gb SATA ; all named the way a fresh install of XP assigned
drive letters.

After Migration

E: CD
F: 320 Gb SATA

I was so pleased that the migration tool found some of the information
(OE message store and Application data) that was stored on the old D:
drive, that I didn't notice that the new C and D had vanished!

Question is, how do I get back C and D on the new machine? To try to
find C, I've deleted all the USB info in device manager, and rebooted,
hoping that C would be discovered. It wasn't. I've tried to re-install
from the mfg. disk - Ultra card reader/floppy - still no indication of
new hardware discovered.

I plan to disconnect C and D, reboot, turn off, reconnect to see if
they will be rediscovered that way, but not until tomorrow.

It's not to late to do a restore to before the migration, but that
means about 3 hours of migration - hate to do it again if I don't have
to.

I've looked at My Computer > Manage > Disk Management, with no
apparent help there....

Thanks for help and suggestions!

Disconnected Ultra drive, rebooted, powered off, reconnected.....
"Discovered" removable drives C and D - card reader section works, but
still no floppy.....
